Until just before the Winter Solstice, Jupiter is in a peculiar and powerful position - at the end of their rulership in Pisces, hovering around the very start of the Zodiac. They won’t have quite this same stature until they enter their rulership in Sagittarius again in 2030 - as such, this is in a way the start of a new collective cycle with Jupiter, as well as the ending of another. Thus, this is a moment to connect with the far-reaching vision of Jupiter.
Jupiter is often given rulership over themes of Wisdom, Wealth, and Adventure. At their root, these all stem back to the incredible largess of Jupiter - Jupiter has such stature that they act as a protector and preserver of the Solar system. Without Jupiter pulling in a steady stream of asteroids, life would almost certainly not be able to exist on Earth or have developed in the way it did. Even more primal than these grandiose, much sought-after goals and ideals that Jupiter symbolizes is the feeling of spaciousness, levity, and encompassing fullness that Jupiter embodies.
Jupiter is also, in a way, the wellspring of some of our highest, upward-reaching religious ideals. This is easily seen in etymology and mythologically: Jupiter, Jove, Zeus, Deus, Dios. Jupiter is in some way connected with classical images of God, a bringer of both providence and lighting. Although this archetype still works with the same set of images, Jupiter’s expression is undoubtedly distorted in today’s world - unjust economic systems inflated to ungrounded excess, bearers of power and wealth isolated and decadent upon their metaphoric Mount Olympus, the veneers coated over corrupted systems of religion cracking. Festivals are overtaken by corporate and colonial interests, the sacred has been made profane. It is time for renewal.
In this class, we will seek to excavate and renew the Jupiterean spirit, finding new wellsprings of providence and sky-lightning power. Aside from meditating upon and seeking to emulate Jupiter’s gestures and tracking them through mythology and our moment’s sky, we’ll explore Jupiter’s different, particular expression through each of the signs, articulating beautiful potentials, possibilities for prodigality, and pathways for remediation. As the biggest planet, responsible for creating maps, systems, and wholes, this will be a panoramic class, focused on gaining perspective, and helping us zoom out and in. In the end, we hope you’ll walk away feeling more expansive, buoyant, and connected to grace.
As one of the planets most strongly associated with festivals and festivities, we’ll be hosting this on Thanksgiving, providing an alternative to a moment that can be hurtful and alienating, gathering in a more essential Jupiterean spirit. As such, this class will be fully pay-what-you-will. You’re invited to come in a festive dress and mood - whatever that looks like for you.
